Expanding the organic meat business Oct 15 2007
Hungry Hollow Organics, based in Middlesex County, has launched a new line of products that are federally inspected. Hungry Hollow President Beatrix Enter says this means they can sell the products across Canada. She says the idea is to replace some of the organic goods that are being imported. Enter discusses Hungry Hollow’s new line and the challenges of meeting the increasing demand for organic food in Canada.



Ontario Cattlemen eyeing the future Oct 05 2007
All Ontario beef producers are encouraged to attend one of several meetings that are being held across the province this month. Vice President of the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association Gord Hardy says the meetings will give producers a chance to discuss how they would like to move the industry forward in the next decade. He tells Foodland Forum that several issues are creating significant changes for Ontario beef farmers.




New market for heritage hogs Oct 02 2007
High-end chefs were growing increasingly dissatisfied with lean pork products that, they said, lacked flavour. In response, a group of Ontario farmers have come together to fill this growing demand. Fred de Martines is a Stratford-area producer and President of Black Bow Farms Incorporated—a group of 7 farmers focused on raising uncommon breeds of pure-bred hogs. de Martines tells Foodland Forum what created this market, and how producers are delivering premium pork.
